Festival Trivia
For local people tickets are now available to collect in person at:Hebden Bridge Visitor and Canal Centre, Butler's Wharf, New Road, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8AF or by phone 01422 843831 and Email hebdenbridge@ytbtic.co.uk. The walks and events in The Erringden Room have a limited capacity so please book early to avoid disappointment.
The Liz Lockhead and Ann Fine events are in The Ted Hughes Theatre and have a larger capacity so please pass on our brochures to your friends. We feel very privileged to be having such big literature figures in Mytholmroyd and we would love to fill the theatre whose entrance space is inspired by Ted's poetry.
For those of you wanting to stay in the area over the weekend Hebden Bridge Visitor and Canal Centre 01422 843831 will be able to help with B&B advice.
Parking
For events in the Erringden Room, Mytholmroyd there is a large car park in front of the community centre off Caldene Avenue. Turn off the main road, over the bridge opposite the post office. There is an honesty box in place. It is then just a short walk to the venue in front of St. Michael's Church. There is limited parking in front of The Erringden Room for people with poor mobility.
The Ted Hughes Theatre is attached to Calder High School, Brier Hey lane, Mythomroyd HX7 5QN and has it's own car park.
If you are attending the poetry slam in Ted's former home, 1 Aspinall Street, Mytholmroyd, HX7 5QN there is often parking spaces available in the evening next to Russel Dean Furniture store on the main Burnley Road. It is a very short walk from there, over the canal bridge, to Aspinall Street.
Volunteer Opportunities
Our next open meeting will take place in The Erringden Room ,Mytholmroyd at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th October. This will be the last meeting before the festival so if anyone wishes to help over the festival weekend please come to that meeting or contact me.
Due to the pressure of his work commitments our treasurer is not able to continue in the post so we are looking, first among our members, for a new treasurer. We need someone with experience for this role. The Elmet Trust is a social enterprise limited company so we need someone who can present accounts to Companies House and advise the other directors. The directors of The Trust meet every other month. We would welcome someone who shares our aims of promoting Ted's history and legacy in the Calder Valley and will support the other directors as they undertake future fund raising and forward planning decisions. If you are interested in the post please contact me and I will put you in touch with our Chairman, James, who can provide more information.
We are always looking for new 'active' members especially ones with fund raising or PR type skills. If you would like to be more involved with the running of The Trust please get in touch as 'many hands like light work'. Active members usually meet once a month in Mytholmroyd or Hebden Bridge, often over a pint!
AGM
The AGM will take place on 6th December this year. I will confirm the time and place later.
Future Book Sale
The Trust have been given some poetry books by Ted to sell to raise funds. These are currently being sorted and priced as there are some collectable ones and first editions among them. We aim to have a list available for members by the festival. We will offer them to members first and sell any that are left after the festival, probably on ebay. I'll send you more information as I have it.
I look forward to seeing you during the festival.
Jeni
Membership Secretary.
