Royd Raps with Lemn Sissay

16 October 2008

'His poems are the songs of the street, declamatory, imaginative, hard-hitting...' says the Independent on Sunday.

Fifteen young enthusiasts have been selected to work on their performance poetry. Who better than Lemn Sissay, contemporary playwright and poet, to show them how it's done? Lemn's first book of poetry was published when he was only 21, and since then he has read his poetry to audiences around the world, appearing on television and radio, making a name for himself as a dynamic and lively performer.

Lemn will be working closely with the group during a workshop, focussing on how they perform and deliver their own poetry. You can get the chance to see how the young hopefuls got on with the rehearsals when they test out their new skills and take to the real stage to perform for you - a live audience on the same evening!

The young people involved have not yet rehearsed together, not even met Lemn Sissay; they only have the rehearsal time available at the workshop on Monday 27th October to practice their lines to impress on the same day they must perform. So, unlike other events at the festival, the evening performance is totally unplanned...

AND festival-goers attending will also get to hear the man in action himself, when Lemn Sissay rounds off the show, performing his own poetry.

Only a limited number of seats are available for this event so book now to see how poetry can be grabbed from a sheet of paper and belted out to a crowd of people!
