Patrons
Earlier this year, Simon Armitage became official patron of The Elmet Trust. Simon, one of the country's most acclaimed poets, has cited the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, and fellow Yorkshireman, as one of his major influences. He himself appeared at the inaugural Ted Hughes Festival last year, and says:
"After hugely successful beginnings, the Elmet Trust are continuing to promote the life and works of Ted Hughes, and the 2008 Festival will be the high point of this year. Ten years after Hughes's death, and following the landmark publication of his Letters, our former Poet Laureate's impact on the literary landscape remains as strong as ever. When held in the village of Hughes's upbringing, readings, events and discussions take on a special significance, and the Trust continues to explore and celebrate the connections between this very rare poet and this special part of the world."
